Dr Maleiha Malik

Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict - Executive Director

Dr Malieha Malik, Executive Director, Protect Education in Insecurity and ConflictMaleiha provides senior level leadership that includes providing intellectual leadership to PEIC to ensure that it delivers on its mandate of advocacy in defence of the right to education even in war, conflict and insecurity. She also provides intellectual leadership for Education Above All Thought Leadership seminars in collaboration with key global actors and co-ordinate projects on Humanitarian Technology and Education​.

Maleiha Malik studied at the University of London (LLB) and Oxford (Bachelor of Civil Law) and is also a barrister and a member of Grays Inn. Maleiha Malik has published extensively in the areas of discrimination law, and her publications include work on international, regional and European human rights law, including the right to education.  She has recently worked on British Council related projects on internationalisation of education (including Higher Education) in Vietnam.

Maleiha Malik is a former member of the governing council of the human rights body, Liberty. Since 1989, she has served on the editorial board of the international journal, ‘Social and Legal Studies’. 

Maleiha Malik has advised the UK Home Office and Ministry to Justice on legal reform. From 2000 to 2005 she was a member of the Home Secretary’s Steering Group on the implementation of the recommendations of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry. From 2009 onwards she was an adviser to the Ministry of Justice. In March 2006 she participated in Georgetown University’s “Building Bridges” seminar. She was an important contributor at the FCO-organised conference Engaging with the Islamic World, held in Istanbul in July 2006. She was also a speaker at the January 2007 event ‘World Civilization or a Clash of Civilizations’ organized by the Mayor of London. Her books include Anti-Muslim Prejudice: Past and Present, Discrimination Law: Theory and Context, Text and Materials (Socio-legal) (Socio-legal Series) and ‘Feminism and Muslim Women’.
