Programme d'accès à l'éducation pour tous les enfants au Mali/Access to Education for All Children in Mali (PACETEM)
The Programme d'accès à l'éducation pour tous les enfants au Mali/Access to Education for All Children in Mali (PACETEM) project is managed by Education Development Center (EDC) and implemented by a consortium of local and international NGOs from the Forum of International NGOs in Mali (FONGIM). The consortium refers to itself as EDC-FONGIM.
The project activities aim to ensure access to quality education and student retention. Firstly, in order to increase access to quality education, the project incorporates initiatives to ensure that: teachers at project schools are well-trained and have access to instructional materials; parents are engaged in their children’s education; and schools are bolstered with support and supervision. PACETEM proceeds with the understanding that such initiatives will permit a child to not only be successful at school, but also complete the primary cycle. As part of sustainability of project impact, PACETEM will train NGO partners and relevant Ministry of Education (MOE) staff to carry this work onward at the project’s conclusion.
Secondly, regarding student retention, the project includes measures that complement education quality, such as collaboration with decentralised school management (school-based and local government), parental and community engagement; teacher training to ensure quality instruction and gender sensitivity; and sufficient quantities of instructional materials for teachers and students.
In addition, at newly-created project schools, a corresponding school director and management committee will monitor teacher and student attendance daily and take appropriate action where necessary. In existing project schools where OOSC have enrolled due to project activities, the school director and management committee will pay special attention to these children.
