Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

EAC and the Norwegian Refugee Council have partnered to guarantee the right to education for children in western Côte d’Ivoire who are out of school due to internal displacement.

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent, humanitarian, non-governmental organization that was established in 1946. NRC’s mission is to promote and protect the rights of people who were forced to flee their countries or their homes within their countries during crisis. NRC has identified education as a key intervention sector in Côte d’Ivoire and supports children affected by the conflict who are unable to achieve their right to a quality education. Since 2007, NRC has successfully integrated a total of 9,488 OOSC into formal schools through its bridging class program.

It provides humanitarian assistance, including education, to refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returning refugees. NRC is an independent, humanitarian non-governmental organization established in 1946 with a mission to promote and protect the rights of people and takes action during situations of armed conflict or humanitarian crisis.

NRC’s education programs target children and youth who face particular education needs related to their displacement.  In order to benefit displaced children and youth, NRC may assist other groups such as parents and guardians, teachers or children and youth in host communities. Education authorities may be supported as a means to fulfill the education rights of the target group.  NRC’s education programs respond to education needs in all phases of crisis and emergency.

In partnership with EAC, NRC is implementing the ‘Bridging Tomorrow’ project in Côte d’Ivoire.  Bridging Tomorrow provides a one-year accelerated program for out of school children to allow them to reenter the formal education system. The partnership aims to reach 12,383 children.
