Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Since 2013, EAC and imagine1day have partnered via different education initiatives to reach some of Ethiopia’s most vulnerable out of school children (OOSC). Through the joint-LEAP project, EAC and imagine1day aim to enrol 63,428 OOSC into quality primary education in the country’s Oromia and Tigray Regions.
Leaders, Educators and Parents (LEAP): A Project for Education through Community Mobilisation

Imagine1day International has focussed exclusively on implementing projects that contribute to Ethiopia’s commitment to universal primary education since 2007. Its goal is to ensure all Ethiopians have access to quality education funded free of foreign aid by 2030. Working under Ethiopia’s public education system, and in partnership with the federal, regional, and district government education offices in the country, imagine1day has demonstrated an ability to reach OOSC and implement education activities, which have significantly improved enrolment, retention and succession rates in primary education.

Leaders, Educators and Parents (LEAP), the joint EAC-Imagine1day project, will be active in every primary school within the seven target districts of Alajide, Gasera, Goro, Harena Buluk, Kola Tambein, Tsegede and Welkait across Ethiopia’s Oromia and Tigray regions. LEAP’s overall goal is to contribute to increased access to equitable and quality primary education for children in the aforementioned project locations through the enrolment and retention of 63,428 OOSC. In addition, LEAP aims to:

  • Raise the primary school gross enrolment rate in project locations;
  • Increase the proportion of school and district leaders with the capacity to lead OOSC enrolment and retention initiatives; and
  • Retain more than 90 per cent of the project-enrolled OOSC in the target districts.
