Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

World Education Forum 2015

Calendar icon 19 - 22 May 2015
Education Above All and its programme, Educate A Child, participated in the World Education Forum (WEF) which was held in Incheon, South Korea from 19-22 April 2015.

Location: Incheon, Korea

As the target date for the completion of the Millennium Development Goals nears, leaders from the global education community gathered at the World Education Forum to determine the education agenda for the next 15 years as part of the Sustainability Development Goals. EAA has engaged with policy-makers, UN representatives, and partners to advocate for the need to keep a basic quality education a priority in the next education agenda.

EAA emphasised that not providing a quality primary education to every child will mean breaking a promise made to the world’s children in year 2000 when the Millennium Development Goals were set.

Below are the list of participations and interventions by EAA at WEF:

  • The four day forum culminated with the Incheon Declaration to address the immediacy of attending to the unfinished agenda of out of school children.  A critical next step is attention to the content of the Framework For Action that will outline the targets, indicators, mechanisms and financing for the education component of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will be approved at the UN General Assembly in September 2015.  Click here to read the Incheon Declaration.
  • In Seoul, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser gave a keynote speech at the 6th Asian Leadership Conference, seeking to forge new alliances between the education and business communities.  The press release is available here. Her Highness later in Incheon, gave a keynote speech at the opening session of the World Education Forum. Watch the video on our YouTube channel.
  • On the sidelines of the forum, an agreement was signed between the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Education Above All Foundation (EAA), click here for more information on how to support education programmes around the world.
